Wayanad from Bangalore

  • Buses for kerela are available at Satellite Bus Station.
  • We took local ksrtc bus to Mysore - 95/- on Friday afternoon at 1 You can go for Delux Kerela transport buses which goes straight to Wayanad - 290/- and preferable.
  • From Mysore we got frequent buses to Wayanad - 110/- in which we were all the time in air flying over the bus seats. Not advisable for people with backpain problem.
  • We decided to get down and stay in Kalpetta 11 KM before Wayanad as it was nearby to Chembra Peak where we wanted to start our Saturday morning with a Trek.
  • We reached late to Kalpetta around 9:30 PM and we had friends from Poland and Brazil. To our surprise foreigners were not allowed to stay in any of the Dormitory - 200 per bed with big and clean bathrooms or Hotel due to some permission issues.
  • We tried our best to find a place, convince hotel people and police as well. But no use. The only hotels with Foreigners stay permit were 3 Star and 5 Star and on a backpacking trip no one wish to stay and spend for luxury.
  • Finally some local guys came to our rescue and let us stay in one of their Home stay foor 5000/- a night for whole house.  We had no other choice and as we were 7 people, 700 per head was considerable.
  • Next morning we were all ready by 9 but we booked a jeep 1200/- per day to take us around which came late and we reached Chembra Peak only by 12 PM. As it as a long weekend, Wayanad was full of tourist and they closed the trek at 11 AM itself not having enough guides to accompany in the trek.
  • We decided to  rush to Suchipara Falls before that gets closed. There was a short steps trail till the falls. The falls is beautiful and sitting near it and experiencing those showers was ultimate if you manage to avoid the crowd gathered.
  • On the way back there are Tea Gardens and beauty of Wayanad can be witnessed very well from an open jeep.
  • We did not have any other option but to leave Wayanad Saturday night itself due to accommodation problem. We took bus from Kalpetta to Mysore and again from Mysore to Bangalore.
  • But there are other places worth seeing like Eddakkal Caves but most of it is limited now by the government.
  • I believe two days is enough to get lost with one of the beauty of Kerela.
