Agumbe - Your own Granny's Place

Finally I have my own Granny's Place to go anytime and stay....

Kasturi Ajji's Home
Doddamane - Featured in famous series written by R.K. Narayana called Malgudi Days.

Located in Agumbe - Cherrapunji of South

346 Km from Bangalore - 7 hours travel time

How to go:

Bangalore to Shimoga - Local Karnataka Bus - 264/-
Private Non A/C sleeper - 350/-
KSRTC - A/C Semi sleeper 484/-

There are direct buses available to Agumbe.

From Shimoga it takes Maximum 2.5 hours to Agumbe - 90/-

Kasturi Ajji's place is 2 minutes walk-able from Agumbe Bus stand.

The house is full of cots and beds. You can crash anywhere you like.
The house even has Western Toilet facility with a huge bathing room having copper-brass water container to heat water on woodfire - super healthy and relaxing for the skin.

You should call and make the booking in prior on weekends if you wish to have a room.
 Kasturi Ajji's Number - +918181233075
Language - Konkani, Marathi, Kannada and English.

There is only single ATM - Syndicate Bank in whole Agumbe which closes by 6 PM on weekdays and remains closed on Sunday. Make sure you carry enough cash.

There are no mobile signals except for BSNL.

You get signals only on Points like - Bharkhana View Point, Sunrise, Sunset point.

There is only one Auto guy who can take you to different places.

Jogigundi Falls is walk-able from Kasturi Ajji's place towards left and one more small Abbe falls  towards right.

Barkhana View point is way inside the forest and the auto guy charges 350 for both ways - 14KM one way - Amazing view.
You can easily trek till that point as there is a concrete road till some distance and then clear trail till the point only if you know the way.

Barkhana View Point

Sunset point is close by - 100/- up and down by Auto.

Small Pond for Boating near Sunset Point

Sunset

Kundadri Hills - Sunrise Point - 23KM one way - 550/- up and down by Auto - 1 hour - The Place worth going. Start at 5:30 AM from Kasturi Ajji's Place.

Sunrise at Kundadri hill- Best Place to go
Talking about Kasturi Ajji's food - No words, simply mouth watering.

One meal - Jeera rice, two types of Palya, two types of salad, Fresh cut fruit, home made pickle, rice, sambhar, rasam, curd ending with masala buttermilk - all this unlimited.
Stay as long as you feel, eat as much as you  want - When my friend called her Aunty asking for rice. she replied - "I am not aunty, call me Ajji, Pati, Daadi..."
And one more thing - Do not even think of wasting food. Your banana leaf should be clean at the end of your meal.
My favourite was Malt - Milk boiled with 29 herbs served with breakfast. Healthier than Tea or coffee..

It was a pure rejuvenating and relaxing weekend with myself rhyming ta na na na na na naaaaaa.

Advisable to visit during monsoon to have Lush green view.
