Travelling - A cake walk

Image
January just got over .. It's not too late... Decide one place in each direction of the country every quarter of the year - South, West, North or East. Book at least two weekends to travel neighbouring cities or states. You will definitely travel one weekend out of two. Now that you have booked your weekends/months, book train tickets prior to stay low on budget. Check all long weekends right now and book your tickets. Try to concentrate on festivals in different places. Do not think or plan too much and end up not going anywhere. Just pick up your bag and go to the bus stand.   Keep your budget as low as possible even if its crazily low. Trust me you will somehow find ways to survive. High budget makes you give up on options easily. You can even carry a tent/sleeping bag/hammock. You might be lucky to socialise and find someone's roof or garden to crash. Planning trip with friends from a long time? Ditch them and just leave even...

Backpack.. Bus Stand.. Travelling to...Let's Toss ;) (Karnataka Chapter - Hampi & Badami)

Image
Majestic Bus station at 10 PM gave us two options - Towards Agumbe via Shimoga OR Hampi via Hospet. We chose: Hampi There is no direct bus to Hampi. You have to go to Hospet - 13 KM from Hampi. We did't find seat in local bus direct to Hospet so we had to divert towards Belari, 62 Km from Hospet. It was already 11:30PM so we took the normal deluxe bus. Majestic to Belari - 330/-  Belari to Hospet - 110/-  Hospet to Hampi - 13- We reached Hampi around 8 AM and got freshen up and took bath in the Bathing complex available everywhere in Hampi, quite clean for a backpacker. After breakfast we continued to explore Hampi. It is a lovely place mostly crowded with tourists and foreigners. It is almost like Goa having eateries, shacks with music and market having shops selling stones, cotton apparels, jewels, generally hippie stuff. They have small guest houses as well which can cost 500/- off season . Get a small map and make sure you covered everyth...

Crash course on Travelling Solo (North East Chapter - Assam - Meghalaya)

Image
Solosoul Once upon a time I turned my interest for Music into part profession. The same interest is taking me places - turning it into my best investment. My friend helped me get a New year show in Guwahati, Assam. Flight tickets were sent to me. I stayed with his family there. For a traveller staying at friend's place or with a family is a lot better than spending nights in Hotel rooms all alone. And, nothing can beat home food. I thought of starting my 2016 with an experiment of travelling solo. Early morning on Jan 1st reached Paltan Bazaar Taxi stand to get the share Sumos to Shillong . Cost/head - 170/- Travel time - 2 hours As it was a holiday and dry day, there were rarely anyone travelling to Shillong from Guwahati. The sumo guy took almost 1.5 hours to fill his ride and start. It was already afternoon by the time I got there. The Taxi driver guessed I am travelling alone and offered me tour to whole Shillong at 2000 bucks. My whole trip budge...

When its all about The Ride

Always fascinated to see riders? You get that sparkle in your eyes seeing bikes like Royal Enfield and Harley? Well why don't you get up and just go try them.... That's what we did. I and my friend - two immature riders. One who usually rides his car and other who try practicing bullet whenever she gets chance. He had the confidence with the recent Khardung La ride he did on bullet and she just went with all the confidence she could gather. Route - Chikkajala - Hebbal - Tumkur - Hassan - Tumkur - Hebbal - Chikkajala 470KM - 12 hours No Destination No Plan For us it was all about riding the RE Classic 500. Thank to FunBykes in HSR layout, Bengaluru, from where it was rented. Their FB Link  - https://www.facebook.com/funbyk/?fref=ts  We decided to ride towards Chikamangalur via Hassan. It was almost 19:30 by the time we reached Hassan. We had little problem riding in the night so to be on the safer side I started riding on my extreme left. Because of my stu...
