Backpackers Corner

  1. The "backpack and a sleeping mat" attire do help you get the respect from local people.
  2.  Work on your communication skills with strangers  to get place to sleep and eat for few complimentary bucks or nothing at all.
  3. The moment you see any new place, take time to feel and appreciate instead of running for your camera.
  4. If someone doesn't speak your language, that's your problem, not theirs. And please don't take "talking louder" as an alternative.
  5. Always eat food hot to avoid any bacteria.
  6. Carry a shower curtain or plastic dining table cover to be used as an alternative to sleeping bag which wont occupy much space in your backpack and if crashing in a hostel or someone's room, it can be easily used as bed cover or a rain cover during unexpected rains.
  7. Do not feel shy to ask first the cost of anything you want to eat. Sometimes food that might look cheaper may turn out to be super expensive or vice versa.
  8. Accommodation will never be a problem for a backpacker, just ask for a bed to sleep and a toilet or public toilet to use.
  9. North - East: Sikkim to Arunachal Pradesh to Tripura - Most safe places to travel alone offering you ultimate nirvana feel.
  10. Goa - Try planning your trip ON season, sleep on beautiful lively beaches and pay 100 bucks to any hotel for your morning rituals - Get fresh and start another wandering day.
  11. If you are lucky to get lift on a safe lorry/truck, do not forget to get the driver's contact for future trips.
  12. Chennai: Cheapest transportation. The places can be difficult to pronounce but anyways work on it as you have buses to each and every corner and the local trains from South Chennai to North Chennai with recently opened Metro Train service. If you are totally unaware of the place do not go for auto unless the auto driver is ready to go by meter else you may end up paying more than 400 just for a U-turn.
  13. Carry your tent to places less traveled and again try your communication skills with local people to make them offer you their house front yard or back yard to camp.
Just get out there..
